Manual Handling Course
Manual Handling is any activity requiring the use of force by a person to lift, lower, push, pull, carry, or otherwise manipulate, move, hold or restrain an object, person or animal.
The European Directive on Manual handling (Manual Handling Operations Regulations) states that employers must ensure that all staff receive appropriate training and information on how to handle loads correctly and the potential risks and injuries that could occur if these tasks are not performed correctly.
Employers must make assessments of the risks in the workplace and either eliminate them or reduce them down to there lowest level possible.
Over one third of all reportable accidents are classified as manual handling injuries and 8 out 10 people already suffer or have suffered from back pain.
These problems are not only caused by lifting heavy items , but more often by poor posture whilst moving smaller, lighter objects or carrying out repetitive tasks (RSI’s) like working at a computer or on a production line.
